Join us after the Evening With Dr. Anthony Fauci to discuss the COVID situation in Travis County. We will host Dr. Desmar Walkes, Medical Director/Health Authority for the City of Austin and Travis County, in a conversation moderated by Mark Updegrove. This is the perfect opportunity to ask your COVID questions in a live Q&A with Dr. Walkes.
Dr. Walkes will speak about the COVID-19 pandemic from a local perspective, respond to Dr. Fauci’s remarks, and answer questions from the audience.
About the Speaker
Dr. Walkes joined the Austin Public Health team as the Medical Director and Health Authority for Austin /Travis County in May 2021. She formerly served as the Health Authority for Bastrop County for 13 years. Dr. Walkes has over 30 years of experience in clinical medicine as well as having traveled to various parts of Central and South America, Asia, and Africa as a medical missionary.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with honors from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada and her Medical Doctor degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Walkes completed a surgical internship at Baylor College of Medicine.
Format
Dr. Walkes will speak in conversation with Mark Updegrove before answering member questions. We will be using a Zoom webinar format.
