Chief Executive Officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States

Celina Stewart is the Chief Executive Officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States, where she executes the 105-year-old voting rights organization's mission to empower voters and defend democracy. Prior to becoming CEO, she served as the League’s director of advocacy and litigation, senior director of advocacy and litigation, and chief counsel.

Before joining the League, Celina's experience included serving as chief operating officer and director of philanthropy at an electoral reform nonprofit, litigation consultant to Am 100 law  firms, legislative aide for the Michigan legislature, legal counsel to the Minority Leader Stacey Abrams in Georgia, and executive director for the Congressional Black Caucus Institute's 21st Century program.

Celina's influence is underscored by her extensive media coverage and speaking engagements. She has been featured in prominent media outlets such as MSNBC’s Morning Joe, CBS News Sunday Morning, CNN, the Associated Press, Vogue, Reuters, CBS News Radio, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Bloomberg, TIME Magazine, NBC News, New York Times, and Voice of America. In May 2025, Celina testified before the Senate, warning that proposals like the SAVE Act would unfairly burden eligible voters and urging lawmakers to protect fair, accessible elections.

Celina's commitment to the legal and advocacy community is evident in her educational background and board service. She earned her JD from Western Michigan University Law School and her BA in Sociology from Spelman College. In addition, she has served on the Boards of the Bar Association of DC, the Women's Bar Association of DC, the National Association of Advancement of Colored People (NAACP-DC), and was an American Bar Foundation Law Practice Fellow.
