Food for Thought: Teaching Thinking to an AI Generation

Education | Nov 10, 2026 6:30PM - 8:30PM

We're all concerned about the role AI is playing in student learning, child development, and impact on the ability for our students to think. AI is becoming more than a tool, instead replacing student thought and being turned in as school work. The effects are yet to be fully known, but we are starting to see the lack of individual and critical thought in the classroom. Together, we'll examine the processes and best practices for the actual teaching of thinking skills.

Food for Thought: Teaching Thinking to an AI Generation will welcome Dr. Veronica Yan from the University of Texas's Educational Psychology Department back to the LBJ Library. With her knowledge of student learning, cognitive psychology, and neuroscience, we will explore how to teach & encourage thinking skills when information is not only readily available to our students, but can do the thinking for them.
