Political historians Nicole Hemmer and Joshua Zeitz will explore the dynamic relationship between media and American politics, from historical perspectives to contemporary insights. This event is brought to you in partnership with the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin.
Speakers
Nicole Hemmer is a political historian specializing in media, conservatism, and the presidency. Her scholarship and teaching focus on the interplay of social movements, electoral politics, and political culture in order to probe the complexities of political identity and practice in the 20th century United States. Her latest book, Partisans: The Conservative Revolutionaries Who Remade American Politics in the 1990s, is a bold reinterpretation of the Reagan presidency and the conservative movement. She is the director of the Carolyn T. and Robert M. Rogers Center for the Study of the Presidency at Vanderbilt University.
Joshua Zeitz is a historian, contributing editor at Politico Magazine, and New York Times best-selling author. He taught American history and politics at Cambridge University and has written for Politico, Washington Post, LA Times, Smithsonian Magazine, The New Republic, The Atlantic, Dissent, American Heritage, and The New York Times. A former gubernatorial speechwriter and policy aide, Josh earned his B.A. with highest honors at Swarthmore College and his Ph.D. in American History at Brown University.
