In November 2016, Austin Mayor Steve Adler formed a task force of local leaders to explore how to ensure equity throughout the city. In April, the group released their suggestions in a final report broken down into five areas: education, real estate and housing, health, finance, and criminal justice.

On May 31, 2017, the LBJ Future Forum hosted a program to hear about the impetus behind the report, how it was created, what it recommends, and what's next.

Participants included:

  • Mayor Steve Adler, City of Austin
  • Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, President and Chief Executive Officer, Huston-Tillotson University; Mayor's Task Force Co-Chair
  • Brion Oaks, Chief Equity Officer, City of Austin
  • Alba Sereno, Project Manager, Mayor's Task Force; Adjunct Professor, School of Social Work, The University of Texas at Austin
  • Moderator: Editorial writer and columnist Alberta Phillips, Austin American-Statesman
