The State of Voting Rights

2026 marked America’s semi-quincentennial, and the LBJ Future Forum marked the occasion by reflecting on the state of democracy after 250 years. Perhaps no piece of legislation reflected the political moment more than the Voting Rights Act, landmark legislation signed by President Johnson that had been transformed by the courts and the current administration. This event explored the state of the Voting Rights Act and voting rights overall in America in 2026.

Speakers included:

  • Jamelle Bouie, Opinion columnist, The New York Times
  • Skye Perryman, President and CEO, Democracy Forward
  • Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, Co-founder and partner, Ascend Strategy Labs
  • Moderator: Eleanor Klibanoff, Law and politics reporter, The Texas Tribune
