Continued Conversations with Tonya Williams

Tuesday, February 16, 11:30 a.m. CST – Online event

Last fall we introduced a new members-only series titled “Continued Conversations.” The speaker will make remarks and then take questions from the virtual audience. On February 16, we’ll host LBJ Foundation board member Tonya Williams at 11:30 a.m. CST.

About the Speaker

Tonya Williams is an innovative strategist and public policy professional with extensive public and private sector experience. From 2011 to 2016, she served as the Director of Legislative Affairs for then-Vice President Joe Biden. In 2016, Tonya was appointed Vice President for Policy, Communications and Knowledge Analytics at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, where she led efforts to improve advocacy and outreach to state and national policymakers, and more effectively leverage over $400 million in annual funding and resources. Williams now serves on the Global Government Affairs team at SoftBank, one of the world’s largest investors and operators in the technology sector. Recently, her role was expanded to include external outreach for Softbank’s new Opportunity Growth Fund – a $100m fund created to support founders of color in the emerging tech sector.

Her previous experiences include serving as General Counsel to the President Pro Tempore of the North Carolina Senate for five years, Director of IP Policy for North and South America at GlaxoSmithKline, and as Chief of Staff to Congressman G.K. Butterfield at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Format

Williams will speak briefly about the Biden Administration, how the new administration might work with Congress, and her experiences working with Biden before answering member questions. We will be using a Zoom webinar. Zoom is free to the public but you will need to download it to your computer or device first. You can download Zoom here.
