Every four or eight years, our country undergoes a remarkably smooth transfer of power, thanks to considerable planning by government officials, academics, and staff from the incoming and outgoing administrations. On Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, Friends of the LBJ Library members were invited to join us as former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper discussed national security as we prepare for a change in the White House.
Following his remarks, Admiral Bob Inman, former Director of the National Security Agency and Deputy Director of the CIA, and Stephen Hadley, former National Security Advisor, joined Clapper on stage for a conversation moderated by LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove.
James Clapper has served as Director of National Intelligence since 2010. In this role, he leads the U.S. intelligence community and serves as the principal intelligence advisor to the president.
This evening program was part of a two-day conference, National Security in a Time of Transition, hosted by the Clements Center for National Security, the LBJ Presidential Library, The LBJ School of Public Affairs, Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, Strauss Center for International Security and Law, and The White House Transition Project. The conference was sponsored by the Moody Foundation and the Herzstein Foundation.
