Evening With Luci Baines Johnson and Stewart McLaurin

Join us on December 1 at 6:30 p.m. CST as we welcome our Friends back to the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium for a holiday-inspired program with Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, and Stewart McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association. Johnson and McLaurin will share stories from the Johnsons’ holidays at the White House, discuss Mrs. Johnson’s commitment to the historic preservation of the White House, and the revered annual tradition of the White House Historical Association’s Official White House Christmas Ornament, which is inspired by the Johnson presidency this holiday season.

Mark Updegrove, President and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, will moderate the discussion. The program will be co-hosted by the LBJ Foundation and the White House Historical Association.

This program will be held in-person in the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium located at the LBJ Presidential Library at 2313 Red River Street. Friends members at the Individual level and above are invited to attend in person. Members must register in advance to attend in-person. We will also livestream the program online on the LBJ Library’s YouTube page.

About the speakers:

As president of the White House Historical Association, Stewart D. McLaurin leads the Association’s non-profit and non-partisan mission to support conservation and preservation at the White House with non-government funding. Under his leadership, the association has expanded greatly in mission reach and impact; fundraising results; educational public programming and award-winning publications that teach the story of White House history; and related retail offerings inspired by history.

Luci Baines Johnson is founder of LBJ Family Wealth Advisors, Ltd. and Vice President of BusinesSuites, a nationwide office business service center. Her community commitments are diverse. She currently serves on the boards of the LBJ Family Foundation, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin, the LBJ Foundation, The University Cancer Foundation Board of Visitors of the MD Anderson Cancer Foundation, and the SafePlace Foundation.

About the Official 2021 White House Christmas Ornament:

The White House Historical Association's Official 2021 White House Christmas Ornament commemorates the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson. One side of the ornament features a painting of the 1967 Blue Room Christmas Tree by Robert H. Laessig, a designer for American Greetings, that Mrs. Johnson commissioned for their card that year. The opposite side of the ornament features a quote from President Johnson: "Our mission is at once the oldest and the most basic of this country: to right wrong, to do justice, to serve man."

The Store at LBJ will be selling the Official 2021 White House Christmas Ornament and a commemorative book, The Official White House Christmas Ornament: Collected Stories of a Holiday Tradition, onsite in the upper lobby of the LBJ Auditorium. By purchasing your ornament through The Store at LBJ, you support a local cultural institution. All proceeds from sales support our programming, exhibits, and educational initiatives at the LBJ Presidential Library.

Tax-free shopping

The Store at LBJ will offer tax-free shopping on December 1 in the Museum Store located off the main Library lobby, from 9-5pm. Items purchased in the auditorium lobby will also be tax-free. Combined with the 10% member discount, Friends members will enjoy a total of 18.25% off on December 1. Start your holiday shopping with us!

Health protocol

We’re excited to gather together again, while keeping your safety and the safety of others in mind. We strongly encourage you to wear a mask, and disposable masks will be available onsite at the check-in table. Because Travis County is still in the “substantial” transmission level as defined by the CDC, we will limit attendance to 50% of the capacity of the venue to allow for distancing.

We will continue to offer Friends members the option to enjoy the program live from home. We will be live-streaming the program to our YouTube channel; please choose the virtual option on the registration form below to receive an email with a link to watch the day of the event.

Location and Parking

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow plenty of time for guests to enter the LBJ Auditorium.
