Due to winter weather conditions in Austin—including icy roads and local school closures—we made the decision to move this evening’s program to a livestream format. The event did not take place in person at the LBJ Library Auditorium.

Ambassador Rahm Emanuel joined us to discuss the future of the Democratic Party, the current Congress, his thoughts on the year ahead, and his distinguished life of public service. The conversation was moderated by Mark Updegrove, President and CEO of the LBJ Foundation.
This program hosted by the Friends of the LBJ Library.
About the speaker
Rahm Emanuel most recently served as the United States Ambassador to Japan. As Ambassador, Emanuel helped deepen the U.S. - Japan alliance, including support for Japan's increased defense spending and expanded military cooperation. He promoted Japan's leadership in Indo-Pacific key security initiatives and participated in the historic trilateral summit at Camp David that reaffirmed that cooperation between the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
Emanuel has devoted his career to public service: as Mayor of Chicago, as Chief of Staff to President Barack Obama, as a United States Congressman serving Illinois’s 5th Congressional District, and as a key member of President Bill Clinton’s administration.
