U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett joins Mark K. Updegrove, President and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, to discuss her new book Listening to the Law: Reflections on the Court and the Constitution (to be released September 9, 2025).
This program is co-hosted by the LBJ Presidential Library, the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and The University of Texas at Austin School of Law.
About the book
Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett invites readers to see the Supreme Court through the lens of her experience in Listening to the Law: Reflections on the Court and Constitution. She brings to life the making of the Constitution and explains her approach to interpreting its text.
Justice Barrett illuminates her role and daily life as a justice, touching on everything from her deliberation process to dealing with media scrutiny. Whether sharing stories of clerking for Justice Scalia or walking readers through prominent cases, she invites her audience to wrestle with originalism and to embrace the rich heritage of our Constitution.
“The process of judging, which happens behind closed doors, can seem like a mystery,” Justice Amy Coney Barrett says. “It shouldn’t.”
