Porfirio Salinas: LBJ’s Favorite Painter

On display November 5, 2022 through March 26, 2023 Temporary gallery in the Great Hall

This exhibition featured eleven of Salinas’ paintings and will be on display during wildflower season in Texas in 2023. Born in Bastrop, Texas, Salinas lived most of his life in San Antonio and was mostly a self-taught painter. Known for his landscape paintings of Texas, many including bluebonnets, Salinas was popular among many Texans, chief among them – Lyndon Johnson who began collecting his work illustrating the hills and fields of Texas in the 1940s. Johnson hung Salinas paintings at the White House, the LBJ Ranch, and the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum.
