An Evening With Chuck Robb

*Online event

Join us for an evening with former U.S. Senator and Virginia Governor Charles “Chuck” Robb, speaking on his remarkable life as chronicled in his recent release In the Arena: A Memoir of Love, War, and Politics. Dr. Mark Lawrence, Director of the LBJ Library, will moderate the discussion.

The program will premiere at 7:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, June 29. A link to view will be emailed to registrants earlier that day. We will not be taking comments or questions live— please submit your questions in advance, as part of the registration process, to help streamline the program. We welcome your comments on our Facebook and YouTube channels.

About the speaker:
In December 1967, Chuck Robb was catapulted onto the national scene when he married Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of then President Lyndon Johnson, in a nationally broadcast White House wedding. Shortly thereafter, Robb, a U.S. Marine, deployed to Vietnam, where he commanded a company in combat and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Robb went on to serve as the 64th Governor of Virginia from 1982 to 1986 and as a United States Senator from 1989 until 2001. He has since served in a number of roles, including as co-chair of the WMD Commission in 2004, on the President's Intelligence Advisory Board in 2006, and on the Iraq Study Group in 2006.

About the Book:
In the Arena: A Memoir of Love, War, and Politics offers the first political memoir of the noted statesman’s extraordinary life, tracing his path from early days as an anonymous Marine to his fairytale wedding, from nighttime operations in Vietnam to engaging in the height of Democratic politics in the Virginia state capitol and U.S. Senate, and from experiencing personal highs and lows to becoming a principled fighter and exemplar of today’s moderate Democrat. The book includes a foreword from former president Bill Clinton.

Signed, bookplated copies of In the Arena are available for sale from The Store at LBJ.
