Historic photos from the Civil Rights Movement shared by the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas. The exhibit, “Struggle for Justice: Civil Rights Photography from the Briscoe Center for American History” highlights the perspective of photojournalists who bore witness to the struggle for civil rights.
Through photographs that document life in the Jim Crow era, portraits of the movement’s leaders, and coverage of activism, these images brought intimate eyewitness views of the struggle for civil rights to the American public. Pulled from the Briscoe Center’s vast collections related to social justice, these images represent a visual record of the challenges, flashpoints, and achievements of the civil rights movement.
The exhibit will also feature the original legislation for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968 through August 27.
