This year, we were honored to be joined by presidential historian Michael Beschloss as our Harry Middleton Lectureship speaker. The conversation was moderated by former LBJ Library Director Mark K. Updegrove.

About Michael Beschloss
Michael Beschloss is an award-winning historian, best-selling author of nine books, New York Times columnist, and Emmy-winning contributor to NBC News and the PBS NewsHour. Beschloss also has the largest Twitter following of any historian, with more than 185,000 followers.

Beschloss serves as presidential historian for NBC News—the first time any major TV network created such a position; he appears on all NBC programs. In 2005, he won an Emmy Award for his role in creating the Discovery Channel series Decisions that Shook the World, of which he was the host.

Beschloss is currently working on a major history of American Presidents and wars from 1812 to the present, which will be published by Crown Publishers in 2017.

About the Harry Middleton Lectureship
The LBJ Foundation established the Harry Middleton Lectureship in 1994 to honor the career, loyalty, and legacy of Mr. Middleton, who served in the Johnson administration and as director of the LBJ Library for 30 years. The lectureship was designed to attract and enrich the learning experiences of UT students and the Austin community. Previous speakers have included former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Tom Brokaw, actor Bryan Cranston, playwright Robert Schenkkan, and playwright and film director David Mamet. The lecture series is co-sponsored by the LBJ Presidential Library and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation.
