Internet 3.0: What Gigabit Internet Speeds Will Mean for Austin and America
On May 12, 2012, former state representative Mark Strama spoke at the LBJ Library. Strama now heads the Austin office of Google Fiber and is charged with helping formulate Google’s plan to plan, build, sell and run its ultra-high-speed broadband fiber-optic access network. He discussed what this new era for the Internet will mean in Austin and beyond.
From 2004 to 2013, Strama represented the north Austin area in the Texas House of Representatives. Mark received Honorable Mentions on Texas Monthly's Ten Best Legislators list in three of his five sessions in the House.
Prior to running for public office, Strama founded the first company to enable Americans to fill out a voter registration form on the Internet - 700,000 people used this technology to register to vote in the 2000 election cycle. Earlier, he was Director of Programs at Rock the Vote, a non-partisan organization that works with MTV and the music industry to engage young people in the political process. He previously worked for former Texas Governor Ann Richards and Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis. Strama graduated from Brown University with degrees in philosophy and political science.
