From Tragedy Comes Change: Community Action in the Wake of Gun Violence

Join the LBJ Future Forum on February 27th for a discussion of how communities can come together in the wake of tragedy. Speakers will explore how coalition building, community activism, and working with different stakeholders can lead to meaningful change.

7:30-8:30 p.m.  Reception and opportunity for continued conversation   

Speakers include:

  • Jamal Alsaffar, Lead attorney representing the families in the 2017 Sutherland Springs shooting and the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde
  • Nicole Golden, Executive Director, Texas Gun Sense
  • Jill Henderson, Founder and President, The Bakari Foundation
  • Moderator: Tony Plohetski, Investigative reporter, Austin American-Statesman and KVUE, and winner of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for coverage of the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting

The conversation will be hosted in the 10th floor Atrium of the LBJ Presidential Library. Free parking will be available at the Library visitors’ lot located at 2313 Red River Street.
