Actors Bryan Cranston and Anthony Mackie, director Jay Roach, writer Robert Schenkkan, and historian and film consultant, Doris Kearns Goodwin

In conjunction with HBO and the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the LBJ Library hosted a special preview screening and discussion of the new HBO film "All the Way" starring Bryan Cranston in his Tony Award-winning role as Lyndon Johnson and Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Jr. Following the screening of the film, writer Robert Schenkkan, director Jay Roach, actors Bryan Cranston and Anthony Mackie, and historian and consultant on the film, Doris Kearns Goodwin, joined LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove on stage for a discussion. The film will premiere on HBO on May 21, 2016.

Based on a screenplay by Robert Schenkkan, who adapted his play of the same name, the film covers President Johnson’s tumultuous first year in office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Staking his presidency on what would be a historic, unprecedented Civil Rights Act, Johnson finds himself caught between the moral imperative of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the expectations of the Southern Democratic party leaders who brought Johnson to power.
