On Thursday, December 11 one of Austin’s own, best-selling author S.C. Gwynne, joined Friends of the LBJ Library members to speak about his recent book Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson, an account of Civil War general Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. The Wall Street Journal commended the book: "Gwynne's easy, loping style wraps itself effortlessly around the particulars of Jackson's life, from his back-of-the-mountain upbringing to the outburst of military genius in the Civil War. The result is a narrative vivid with detail and insight." Talmage Boston, a Dallas attorney and noted author, moderated the event.

S.C. Gwynne has spent most of the last 14 years writing for Texas Monthly, where he served as Executive Editor for 8 years. Previously he worked for Time Magazine for 12 years as Correspondent, Bureau Chief, National Correspondent, and Senior Editor. He wrote some 200 stories for Time, including six cover stories. He has written four books, including Empire of the Summer Moon, which was a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award and won the Texas Book Award and the Oklahoma Book Award.
