On Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, Friends of the LBJ Library members hosted Mark K. Updegrove who spoke about his new book, The Last Republicans: Inside the Extraordinary Relationship Between George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Journalist and political commentator John Avlon moderated the conversation.
About Updegrove & Avlon
Mark K. Updegrove is a presidential historian, author, and the former director of the LBJ Presidential Library. In March 2017, he became the CEO of the new National Medal of Honor Museum, to be built along the harbor in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. His new book, The Last Republicans, draws on exclusive access and interviews with both presidents and the key people in their lives to present a portrait of George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush that explores their relationship as presidents and as father and son. Updegrove also reveals the Bushes' views on the current state of the nation and the GOP, and how the party they both led and helped build is undergoing a radical transformation.
John Avlon is the editor-in-chief and managing director of The Daily Beast and a CNN political analyst.
