On Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, the LBJ Library hosted a professional development workshop, led by The DBQ Project, for local educators.
Democratizing the Document-Based Question:
Using DBQs to Engage Students in Authentic Historical Inquiry and Literacy
The introductory workshop included an overview of The DBQ Project 6-Step Method with special emphasis placed on differentiating the process to meet the needs of all learners and utilizing the gradual-release model for document analysis. Connections to the TEKS and STAAR were also discussed. Participants also had the opportunity to visit the library's permanent and temporary museum exhibits, and all received a DBQ project lesson on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to use in their classrooms.
