AI is everywhere! We can see how it's a fun tool, but we also know it can pose some challenges in the classroom. The LBJ Library hosted a dinner discussion led by Dr. Julie Schell (University of Texas), where participants discussed the many types of AI, examined the paradoxes of our digital divide, and explored how to create ethical resilience for teachers and students! While we fear AI as a takeover, let's harness the power and learn how to make it a tool for educators.
Dr. Julie Schell is the Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Technology and the Director of the Office of Academic Technology at UT Austin. She is at the forefront of policy, strategy, and innovation efforts to deploy AI responsibly to advance the teaching and learning mission of the University. She is also an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Departments of Design and Educational Leadership and Policy. Her approach accentuates the synergies among design, pedagogy, and technology to drive meaningful learning experiences. Dr. Schell has over 25 years of experience in higher education and has held positions at the nation's top research universities, including Stanford, Columbia, Harvard, and Yale.
