AUSTIN, TX - The LBJ Presidential Library is hosting The Wall That Heals, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., April 22-28, 2016 and is seeking volunteers to assist in recognizing the men and women who courageously served during the Vietnam War.
The Wall will be located on the LBJ Library Plaza and will be free and open to all visitors 24-hours a day. There will also be a mobile Education Center and Information Tent. It is anticipated that approximately 800 veterans, their families, and the public will visit daily. In order to make this visitor experience one of dignity and respect, the library is seeking volunteers to work alongside Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) site managers.
Volunteer Needs
The Wall must be staffed 24-hours a day. The library is seeking volunteers for shifts April 21-29. These volunteers will greet visitors, answer questions about The Wall, help find names engraved on the panels, and provide historical context about The Wall and the Vietnam War. Additionally, volunteers will have the opportunity to present lapel pins to veterans. The pins are provided by the United States Vietnam War Commemoration to thank, recognize, and honor Vietnam veterans.
In order to be well prepared to work with veterans and the public, all volunteers are encouraged to participate in a training session on Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m.

The Wall That Heals, sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), bears the names of the 58,307 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Since its 1996 dedication, The Wall has visited more than 400 cities and towns throughout the nation, spreading the memorial's healing legacy to millions.
This year, the LBJ Presidential Library and the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration are recognizing the 50th anniversary of the war in Vietnam.
