AUSTIN – Matthew McConaughey, actor and philanthropist, has recorded a public service announcement about the LBJ Presidential Library, the legacy of President Lyndon Baines Johnson and the impact LBJ’s social and cultural programs have on Americans today.

The 30-second PSA seeks to inspire viewers to visit the LBJ Presidential Library and look at the legislation President Johnson passed to understand how it impacts their lives today – civil rights, access to education, the right to vote, clean air and water, and even seatbelts were all pieces of legislation LBJ signed into law.

McConaughey’s message comes as the LBJ Presidential Library is unveiling new state-of-the art exhibits giving visitors a contemporary experience on one of the most consequential presidents and eras in our country’s history. The redesign was a multi-million dollar project that changed the look, feel and experience of the exhibits.

“Today, younger Americans know about President Lyndon Johnson from their history books,” said Mark K. Updegrove, Director of the LBJ Presidential Library. “However, the legislation signed by Lyndon Johnson still affects us today and we hope this PSA will inspire not only new generations, but all generations, to visit the Library to understand LBJ’s legacy and the impact it has on their lives.”

The PSA was conceived and developed by Arsenal Advertising + PR and produced by T-Minus, both based in Austin, Texas. The PSA was filmed inside the replica of the Oval Office at the LBJ Presidential Library as McConaughey stands in front of the historic desk used by the 36th President while he was in office.

The PSA is available to view on the LBJ Presidential Library’s website, and video files are available for the news media.
