LBJ Library unveils a new exhibit. The Store at LBJ is open. Update on the Library's redesign and closures.

NEW EXHIBIT
On April 30, 2012, visitors to the LBJ Library and Museum in Austin, Texas, will experience a new exhibit entitled “The White House Years” showcasing items from the Johnson presidency. As the nation’s hosts to foreign dignitaries, the Johnsons received many gifts, some ancient and priceless, others humble and homemade. The gifts displayed include jewelry, sculpture, ceremonial swords, and, of course, alligator cowboy boots. The exhibit also features artifacts and photos about life at the LBJ Ranch, where the President spent more than one fifth of his time in office. “The White House Years” exhibit is on the 10th floor of the Library and is located near the Oval Office exhibit and First Lady’s Gallery, which is about the contributions of Lady Bird Johnson.

THE STORE AT LBJ
Visitors will also have the opportunity to shop in The Store at LBJ. The renovated Store is twice the size of the previous one. It reflects LBJ’s administration and its era, along with Lady Bird Johnson’s legacy of beautification. However, The Store features much more:

• Expended book section, including presidential memoirs
• Large children's section
• University of Texas memorabilia
• Locally made jewelry
• Pottery from the Hill Country
• Items about politics, Texas, and Austin.

NEW PARKING BANNERS
To help guide visitors to the Library, new directional banners have been installed at the entrance to the Library's parking lot. Parking and admission to the LBJ Library are free. The Library is open every day from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

REDESIGN
These improvements are the latest developments in the $10 million redesign of the LBJ Library.  The major change visitors will experience is that the main exhibit floors of the Museum are closed for renovation and are scheduled to open in December 2012 as part of the celebration of what would have been Lady Bird Johnson’s 100th birthday.

The LBJ Library will remain open throughout the construction; however, parts of the Library will be closed at times. Visitors are encouraged to check the Library's website often for updates on construction. On the website, www.lbjlibrary.org, the public may also sign up for monthly email progress reports which will feature new photos and videos.

The Library's Reading Room will remain open for researchers, students, and the public during regular business hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
