We Remember President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Birthday on August 27th

This year, the annual wreath-laying ceremony marking the birthday of President Johnson on August 27th will be conducted as a virtual program hosted by LBJ Presidential Library Director Mark A. Lawrence. The program will include a wreath-laying at the LBJ Memorial Grove in Washington, DC, by Lynda Johnson Robb, tributes to President Johnson by liberal arts honor students from The University of Texas at Austin, and a wreath-laying on President Johnson's grave at the LBJ Ranch by Luci Baines Johnson.

Two students at The University of Texas at Austin, Anagha Kikkeri and Ali Zaidi, will pay tribute to LBJ

(AUSTIN-TX) – On August 27, 2020, commemorations in Texas and Washington, DC, will honor President Lyndon Johnson’s birthday, who was born on August 27, 1908, in Stonewall, Texas.

The ceremonies and tributes will be posted beginning at 2:00 p.m. CDT on August 27 and shared on Facebook by the LBJ Presidential Library (@LBJPresLib), the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park (@LBJohnsonNPS), and Texas State Society (@TexasStateSociety).

The virtual commemoration will be hosted by Mark A. Lawrence, Director of the LBJ Presidential Library. 

  • The program begins at the LBJ Memorial Grove in Washington, DC, with a ceremony that is traditionally hosted by the Texas State Society. Lynda Johnson Robb, President and Mrs. Johnson’s daughter, will lay a wreath and make remarks.
  • Two liberal arts honor students at The University of Texas at Austin have been invited to share their thoughts on how LBJ’s legacy impacted them and their families. Last year, the students took an undergraduate course titled “The Johnson Years.” The students are:
    • Anagha Kikkeri is a senior from Dallas, Texas, majoring in government. She is the UT Student Government President.
    • Ali Zaidi is a senior from Missouri City, Texas, majoring in government and Middle Eastern Studies. He is a Thomas Jefferson scholar.
  • Luci Baines Johnson will lay a wreath at her father’s grave in the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park.

Lyndon Baines Johnson, 36th President of the United States, died in 1973 and is buried at the LBJ Ranch, near his birthplace in Stonewall, Texas.
