Information for the public: Free general admission tickets are no longer available. A standby line will form at 4:30 p.m., and those in the standby line will be admitted to fill any empty seats. However, we cannot guarantee admission to those in the standby line. Students tickets are available at the Texas Union Ticket Office (UNB 4.300) with UT student ID (1 ticket per person - Hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. M-F), while supplies last.

(Austin) – Enjoy a memorable evening with former President Jimmy Carter who will discuss his book, White House Diary, the presidency, and current issues facing the country. LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove will lead the conversation with President Carter, which will include an audience question and answer segment.

Giving readers inside access to the daily activities and thoughts of a President, White House Diary is a fascinating book about the events of his administration and the people involved. At this program, expect an intimate look at the Carter White House and a candid appraisal of current events.

About Jimmy Carter:

  • 39th President of the United States, elected in 1976
  • Graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, chosen for the nuclear submarine program
  • Married to Rosalynn Smith of Plains, Georgia.
  • Worked as a farmer in Plains, Georgia.
  • Elected Governor of Georgia in 1971
  • Author of more than 20 books
  • In 1982, founded the Carter Center which addresses national and international issues of public policy
  • In 2002, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
  • Each year, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

Middleton Lecture Series
Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson established the Harry Middleton Lecture Series in 1994 to honor the contributions of Harry Middleton, Director of the LBJ Library from 1971 to 2002. It was her desire to make renowned speakers available to students and the public free of charge. Past Middleton Lecture Series speakers include Sandra Day O'Connor, Tom Brokaw, Dr. Steven Weinberg, Brian Williams, Bill Moyers, and actor Michael York.
