“As many of you have heard, sometimes our fathers didn’t get along. (But) they shared so much, and shared a love of country.” — Lynda Johnson Robb, daughter of former President Lyndon Johnson, at a gala party Saturday night that reunited former Kennedy staffers in Washington. Robb said this with her arm around a Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of Robert Kennedy.

“Sometimes didn’t get along” is a dramatic understatement. But burying the hatchet is probably never a bad thing. The renowned historian Doris Kearns Goodwin pointed out that what Kennedy started, Johnson finished, whether it be civil rights or Medicare. read more
