Feb 26, 2010
Outstanding work in preserving and making LBJ telephone conversations available is recognized.
It took years of hard work and dedication but the effort and service to the public was well worth it. The Archives staff of the LBJ Library has been honored for its outstanding work preserving and making available the recordings and transcripts of President Johnson's telephone conversations. The staff reviewed approximately 643 hours of recordings and more than 7,300 pages of transcripts, a process that began in 1992 and was completed in 2008.
This is one of the most significant collections at the Library and is available to researchers, students, and the public. These conversations provide unique insights into some of the most important and tumultuous years in American history. Public and scholarly interest in the telephone conversations has been overwhelming.
