September 2012

Sep 01, 2012

Just over 40 years ago, President Johnson dedicated this library with the hope that visitors would "get a clearer comprehension of what this nation tried to do in an eventful period in our history."  I'm confident that our new core exhibit will give visitors a greater understanding of the times in which LBJ was President and his remarkable impact on today's America.

Updates on the renovation will be posted on our website, and this eNewsletter will keep you informed about upcoming events. Thanks for your patience as we prepare what promises to be an extraordinary new exhibit, opening to the public on December 22.

Construction Crews Are Hard At Work

Construction is well underway with our exhibit redesign project. If haven't visited the library in some months, there are exciting changes to the lobby, Store at LBJ and 10th floor for you to see. The majority of the exhibits are closed while our construction crews are hard at work. As the hammers are swinging, our Museum and Archives teams continue to find fascinating images, artifacts and documents in the collection that we're eager to share with you in the new  exhibit. In the next weeks, we'll shift from construction to installation. The project is proceeding apace and all is well, if noisy, here at the library.

Educational Programs For Groups of All Ages

Educating our visitors is an integral piece of the LBJ Library's mission. One way we accomplish this is through programming offered by our Education Specialists who work with groups to provide a clear and unbiased perspective about the life and times of President Johnson.

Schedule an introduction to the holdings, history, and mission of the LBJ Library through a presentation and tour, allow your group to dive into the Six-Day War through a presentation using the President's words, or familiarize yourself with Mrs. Johnson's Whistlestop tour through the south. The Store at LBJ Opens Its Doors

The first phase of the LBJ Presidential Library's redesign project was unveiled on April 26th with the opening of our new museum shop, The Store at LBJ. The store has more than doubled in size, and is complete with custom fixtures, new product, a new logo, and a new e-commerce site in the works. In addition, the Store will be hosting public events this fall, including book signings, trunk shows, and Texas football game day specials.

As always, proceeds from the store support the mission of the LBJ Presidential Library. Members of our Friends and Future Forum always receive 10% off as a membership benefit. The store is open to the public every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of Christmas Day.   We encourage you to visit the store and find out what the buzz is all about!
