Program Description: The Project on Civic Reflection offers a fresh set of resources for reading and conversation that provide compelling programming for people interested in deepening civic engagement. Established at Valparaiso University in 1998 with support from the Lilly Endowment, the Project on Civic Reflection helps civic groups and organizations build reading and discussion into their giving and service activities. These organizations learn to talk more comfortably with colleagues about values and to respond more imaginatively to the needs of their communities.
Elizabeth Lynn, the project?s founder will lead participants in participants in a civic reflection based on a selection from The Civically Engaged Reader. Erik Jorgensen, incoming Director of the Maine Humanities Council will discuss two exemplary library-based civic reflection programs. Participants will also tour the project's online resource library, and learn about resources for conducting your own Civic Reflection programming, including the website, small grants, facilitator training and the anthology, The Civically Engaged Reader.
