An Evening With Jack Goldsmith

Mark K. Updegrove, LBJ Library Director, invites you to join Friends for An Evening With Jack Goldsmith, Thursday, April 8, 2010, 6:00 p.m., LBJ Auditorium

Jack Goldsmith is Henry L. Shattuck Professor of Law at Harvard University, where he specializes in national security law, international law, and presidential power. He is the author of five books and dozens of articles on these and other subjects. His most recent book, The Terror Presidency, recounts his experiences as Assistant Attorney General in 2003 and 2004, a turbulent time in President George W. Bush’s White House. The Terror Presidency has been deemed “chilling” by the New York Times and “an important book – a genuine service to national interest” by the Los Angeles Times.

Professor Goldsmith will speak on “The Second Terror Presidency: Obama’s Embrace of the Bush Counterterrorism Program,” discussing President Obama’s approach to executive power. Copies of The Terror Presidency will be available for sale and signing prior to the program. Guests may place advance orders with the LBJ Museum Store by calling (512) 232-2396.

A reception for Friends members will follow the presentation. Please RSVP by returning the postcard enclosed with your invitation or by emailing friends@lbjlibrary.net by March 31. An RSVP is required in order to attend. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Please bring your membership cards for admittance.

Note: Professor Goldsmith’s talk is the keynote lecture for the Library’s joint symposium with The University of Texas Law School on “Executive Power,” to which you are also invited. To view the full symposium agenda or to read more, please click here.
