The LBJ Library invites you to join Friends for An Evening With Harry Middleton and Mark K. Updegrove, Wednesday, December 9, 2009, 6:00 p.m., LBJ Auditorium
Please join us on December 9 as former Director Harry Middleton joins Mark Updegrove for a conversation about Updegrove’s plans for the Library and his work as an author and presidential historian.
Mr. Middleton was the Director of the LBJ Library and Museum for thirty years, while also serving as Executive Director of the LBJ Foundation. His long and fruitful reign as the Library’s Director earned him a reputation among his peers as “the Dean of presidential library directors.” He also served as staff assistant to President Johnson from 1967 to 1969 and assisted in the preparation of the President’s memoirs, The Vantage Point.
Mr. Updegrove recently became the Library’s fourth Director. He is an award-winning author of two books on the presidency. Baptism By Fire: Eight Presidents Who Took Office in Times of Crisis examines how eight presidents who inherited unprecedented crises upon taking the reigns of power, the role of character in leadership, and the lessons they provide for President Obama. Second Acts: Presidential Lives and Legacies After the White House looks at the post-presidential lives of our modern presidents and includes exclusive interviews with Presidents George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and Gerald Ford. In a media career that spanned over twenty years, Mr. Updegrove served as publisher of Newsweek, Los Angeles Manager of Time, President of Time Canada, and Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Operations for Yahoo! Canada.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. A reception in the Great Hall will follow the presentation. The LBJ Museum Store will be open before and after the program for special holiday shopping - offering a 20% discount on purchases of $25 or more during the evening. Tickets will not be mailed. Please bring your current Friends membership card to the event for admittance. Those without membership cards will be directed to the membership desk onsite.
The Auditorium is located on the lower level of the LBJ Complex. Access to the Auditorium is through the south entrance located by the LBJ Library Fountain or through the main entrance to the LBJ Library. Please park in the visitor parking lot (lot #38); the other parking lots have changed and are now open to those with University permits only.
