An Evening With David Grubin, Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 6:00 p.m., Connally Ballroom, University of Texas Alumni Center
In Lyndon Johnson’s Centennial year and this presidential election year, our attention is focused on politics and the presidency. To help us keep an eye on history and its lessons, American Experience and PBS are collaborating to broadcast seven presidential biographies across the year. LBJ, David Grubin’s four-hour biography of Lyndon Johnson, will be shown locally on PBS on October 20 and 27. LBJ won the duPont Award among many other prizes and was chosen as one of the best documentaries of 1992 by The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Newsday, and People magazine.
On September 16, David Grubin will join us to speak about his award-winning documentary and its larger-than-life subject. Mr. Grubin will also show clips from the film; the film will not be shown in its entirety.
David Grubin is a producer, director, writer, and cinematographer who has won every major award in his field, including three George Foster Peabody awards, two Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University awards, and nine Emmys. As the president of David Grubin Productions, Inc., Mr. Grubin has produced over 100 films on subjects ranging from history to art and poetry to science. His other presidential biographies include FDR, TR: The Story of Theodore Roosevelt, Truman, and Abraham and Mary Lincoln: A House Divided.
“LBJ is historical filmmaking at its deepest and classiest, a full, warm-blooded, ten-gallon sized portrait.” - Los Angeles Times
