An Evening With A White House Diary Wednesday, October 10, 2007, 6:00 p.m., Connally Ballroom, University of Texas Alumni Center
This fall, the University of Texas Press will re-issue A White House Diary, Mrs. Johnson’s eloquent personal account of her experiences as First Lady. The Friends of the LBJ Library will celebrate the occasion by inviting a select group of Johnson friends and family to tell their own behind-the-scenes stories about the events Mrs. Johnson describes. Bess Abell, Liz Carpenter, Luci Baines Johnson, Jim Ketchum, Lynda Robb, and Elspeth Rostow will join us on-stage for story-telling and conversation. Harry Middleton will moderate this special evening.
Originally published in 1970, A White House Diary is Mrs. Johnson's intimate, behind-the-scenes account of Lyndon Johnson's presidency from November 22, 1963, to January 20, 1969. Beginning with the tragic assassination of John F. Kennedy, Mrs. Johnson records the momentous events of her times, including the Great Society's War on Poverty, the national civil rights and social protest movements, her own activism on behalf of the environment, and the Vietnam War. – University of Texas Press
