LBJ: Architect of American Ambition, An Evening With Randall B. Woods, 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2006, LBJ Auditorium
Randall B. Woods, a distinguished historian and fellow Texan, will reveal to us a different side of Lyndon B. Johnson with insights from his new biography, LBJ: Architect of American Ambition, the result of ten years of research and writing. Much of that research was done at the LBJ Library.
For years, some biographies have portrayed Johnson as a dark character, responsible for the Vietnam War and the impact that it had on social programs. Dr.Woods offers a more positive review of the president’s legacy and examines the state of the Democratic Party in LBJ: Architect of American Ambition. Through conducting in-depth interviews, listening to new White House recordings, and reviewing declassified documents, Woods finds LBJ to be dedicated to public service, a reformer, a magnetic character, and a sympathetic and compassionate man.
Dr. Woods was raised in Johnson’s 10th Congressional District and is currently the John A. Cooper Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Arkansas. He is the author of several books, including the award-winning Fulbright: A Biography.
The LBJ Museum Store will be selling copies of LBJ: Architect of American Ambition. Dr. Woods will be signing copies of his book from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. in the Lobby of the LBJ Auditorium prior to his address.
