During his three decades in broadcasting, Bill Moyers has pursued a broad spectrum of journalism – covering topics ranging from American history, politics, and religion to the role of the media and the world of ideas. Mr. Moyers will discuss a similarly broad spectrum of topics included in his latest book, Moyers on America: A Journalist and His Times , at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 27 th in a special “Evening With” lecture for the Friends of the LBJ Library.

Publishers Weekly writes of Moyers on America , “Whether he's extolling the virtues of participatory democracy based on the early 20th-century Progressive movement or lamenting recent evidence that democracy is on the auction block with politicians bought by special interests, Moyers' ability to communicate history, philosophy and personal experience simultaneously is impressive.”

Poet and novelist James Dickey said, “Bill Moyers believes with his very heart-bone in the interchange of ideas, in individuals speaking out…And he is, in a very real sense, a man of faith: of faith in America.”

From his early years as a Texas journalist to his role as one of the organizers of the Peace Corps, top assistant to President Johnson, publisher of Newsday , senior correspondent and analyst for CBS News, and producer of many of public television's groundbreaking series, Mr. Moyers has been actively engaged in some of the most volatile issues of the past 50 years.

Mr. Moyers is the host of Now with Bill Moyers on PBS and is the winner of more than thirty Emmy Awards. In addition to his best-selling book, Listening to America, four of Moyers' books based on his television series have also become bestsellers: Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, A World of Ideas I and II , and Healing and the Mind.

The LBJ Store will be selling Mr. Moyers' books outside the auditorium beginning at 5:00, and Mr. Moyers has graciously agreed to sign as many as he can from 5:15 until 5:45. A reception will follow the program.
