Dear Friends,

Thanks for your support of our Friends programming this year. We are now in our "quiet phase" of the year, as we wind down to prepare for another year of programming. Fall speakers and dates will be announced later this summer.

In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the Freedom Riders exhibit before it closes next Monday, June 6.

All the best,

Mark K. Updegrove
Director

In celebration of the LBJ Library's 40th anniversary, Lady Bird Johnson's oral histories are now available online for the first time. In Mrs. Johnson's words, experience life with LBJ, her memories of Austin, and a behind-the-scenes look at politics.

"We have the White House Diary (kept by Mrs. Johnson and published in 1970), where she talks about all the presidential years, and don't really have her insights into the pre-presidential years, but they are provided by these oral histories," said Claudia Anderson, Supervisory Archivist. "These are really her personal insights." The transcripts total nearly 1,400 pages and can be found on the LBJ Library website.

Last chance! The LBJ Library and Museum will host the traveling exhibit Freedom Riders from May 9 to June 6 in the Great Hall. A detailed narrative of the Rides is illustrated with vivid archival photos and newspaper clippings that document this pivotal event in the civil rights movement. The exhibit is enhanced by companion audio that allows visitors to hear the poignant eyewitness accounts of the Riders who endured bitter racism and savage beatings, but ultimately changed America forever.
