Dear Friends,

This is a quick thank you for helping to make 2010 a memorable year for the LBJ Library. With your encouragement and support we had a phenomenal slate of programming.

2011 promises to be even better. We'll start the year auspiciously with the Harry Middleton Lecture featuring former President Jimmy Carter. The season will continue with programs featuring, among others, S.C. Gwynne, author of the best selling book, Empire of the Summer Moon; U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; Watergate reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein; and civil rights pioneer Julian Bond. We're also at work on other events to round out the year. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Best wishes for a happy, fulfilling New Year - and, I hope the LBJ adds to it.

All best,

Mark K. Updegrove
Director

Upcoming Middleton Lecture
The 2011 Annual Harry Middleton Lecture will be presented by former President Jimmy Carter on February 15, 2011. Lifetime and Sustaining members are invited and will receive invitations in mid-January.

Other members of the Friends will not receive a mailed invitation and cannot RSVP by email or phone, but may participate in the public ticket distribution. A limited number of public tickets will be available at the LBJ Library's Information Desk starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1. Tickets will be available at the Information Desk from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day while they last. Limit two per person. Tickets are required for entry to the lecture; your Friends membership card will not admit you to this lecture.

Mrs. Johnson created the lectureship series in 1994 to honor Mr. Middleton and, in doing so, to make renowned speakers available to students and the public free of charge. The lecture is not part of our Evening With speaker series.

Among Friends
In the coming weeks, watch your mailboxes for the next edition of Among Friends. The print newsletter for members of the Friends of the LBJ Library is now sent twice a year.

The upcoming issue will feature an article by former Library Director and Johnson staffer Harry Middleton celebrating the Library's 40th anniversary, a listing of upcoming events and fall highlights, and an interview with Tom Johnson, who served as Executive Assistant to President Johnson and later as President and Chairman of CNN.
