On August 27, the LBJ Library will celebrate the 100th
anniversary of Lyndon Johnson's birth with fanfare!
The Museum will open a new exhibit entitled To
the
Moon: The American Space Program in the
1960s. The focus of the exhibit will be
the "Sputnik" period (late 1950s) through the first
moon
landing of Apollo 11 in 1969. Each step of the space
programs Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo will be
featured, as
well as the milestone flights of astronauts Alan
Shepard, John Glenn, and Ed White. The exhibit
coincides with NASA's 50th anniversary. The
Library and Museum will host space-related public
programming throughout the year.
That evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., the LBJ
Library
will host a
Texas-sized birthday party for LBJ on the lawn
of the LBJ Library complex. Free barbeque, soft
drinks, and ice cream
will
be served, and The Riff
Ryders will provide musical entertainment. Bring
your families and friends to celebrate with us!
Admission and parking are free. RSVPs are not
required. For detailed information, including
