Links for the Friends

Dear Friends,

Thanks for joining us last month to hear from Max Sherman, Maria Shriver, and Bill Bradley. We still have two very interesting speakers before we break for the summer - please see below for more details. I hope you will join us!

As you will notice if you visit the Library in the coming weeks, the scaffolding has been removed on the east and west sides of the building, with the remainder to be removed mid-summer.

Sincerely,

Betty Sue Flowers
Director

Upcoming Evening With Programs
We have two remaining Friends programs for the 2006-2007 season: An Evening With Joseph Califano on May 10 and An Evening With Robert Dallek on May 22. Both programs will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Connally Ballroom in The University of Texas Alumni Center located on San Jacinto, across the street from the football stadium.

Drawing on his experience as Chairman and President of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), Joseph Califano will discuss substance abuse and its cost to society. A reception and booksigning will follow.

Presidential historian Robert Dallek has just finished a new book, Nixon and Kissinger: Partners in Power, chronicling the power struggles between the two men, based on recently declassified material. A reception and booksigning will follow.

Tickets are required for both events and may be requested by emailing friends@lbjlib.utexas.edu. We suggest parking in the San Jacinto Garage or the Brazos Street Garage at a cost of no more than $8. There is also a limited number of spots available on the surrounding streets.
The Politics of Peace and the Consequences of War
On May 6 and 7, the LBJ Library and Museum will co-host an interdisciplinary workshop to bring together leading scholars - from the fields of communication, economics, history, law, political science, public affairs, and sociology - from around the country and the world to begin to address the many intriguing questions surrounding the domestic political consequences of war.

To view the agenda for each day and to register, please click here: The Politics of Peace and the Consequences of War. If you would like to attend you must register by Friday morning, May 4.
Final chance to see Special Exhibition
Power to the People: The Electrification of Rural Texas will close on May 28, 2007. Walk into a world before television, computers, the iPod, refrigerators or even running water. This exhibition focuses on Congressman Johnson's efforts to bring electricity to the Hill Country and the difference it made in the lives of Central Texans.

Power to the People: The Electrification of Rural Texas is sponsored by Pedernales Electric Company.
