Thank you for your support this year, particularly as we hosted Friends programs at several different venues on campus and downtown. Though this season is winding down, we look forward to presenting another season of interesting and educational programs beginning in late August.

Season in Review
The Friends enjoyed a slate of a dozen impressive Evening With programs this year. Highlights included Pulitzer-Prize winning author Lawrence Wright's dramatic presentation on Al-Qaeda, James Baker on politics and Iraq, insider Liz Carpenter on presidential humor, and Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne on religion and social justice. This spring brought Maria Shriver to present a riveting documentary on her father Sargent Shriver, Senator Bill Bradley on the state of America, and historian Robert Dallek on the tumultuous relationship between Henry Kissinger and Richard Nixon. Friends also heard from several well-known Austinites: Roy Spence on faith in Texas and Max Sherman's tribute to Barbara Jordan.

Thank you for your patience while the LBJ Auditorium undergoes a much-needed renovation. We are already planning another great line-up of stimulating speakers for next year. We plan to move the programs back into the LBJ Auditorium in late 2008.
In the Museum Store
There's still an opportunity to purchase copies of several of the books discussed in the Evening With programs this year. As always, Friends members receive a 15% discount on purchases from the LBJ Museum Store. Available books include:

Congressman Michael McCaul at the LBJ Library
In April of 2007 President Bush signed a bill into law naming the Federal Department of Education building in Washington, D.C., for President Lyndon Baines Johnson. President Johnson successfully implemented legislation and programs that allowed millions of American children the opportunity to receive quality educations.

On Wednesday, May 30, Congressman Michael McCaul, a sponsor of the legislation to name the building for President Johnson, presented the redline copy of the bill and a pen used by President Bush to sign the bill into law to the LBJ Library and Museum as well as the Johnson family. The building dedication will take place in D.C. in early fall.
