Dear Friends,

We hope you will join us for one or more of our "Evening With..." programs this month. We will celebrate Barbara Jordan and Sargent Shriver, and discuss American politics with former Senator and presidential candidate Bill Bradley. Additionally, please read below for a special opportunity to hear Bob Schieffer.

Please remember - the Library may be under renovation but we are open! Power to the People: The Electrification of Rural Texas will close at the end of May, so you have two more months to see the exhibition showcasing how Congressman Johnson brought power to the Hill Country.

Sincerely,

Betty Sue Flowers
Director

Education Building Named after LBJ
President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Elementary
On March 23 President George W. Bush signed a law naming the Education Building in Washington, D. C., after former President Lyndon B. Johnson. Luci Baines Johnson and Lynda Johnson Robb, daughters of the former President, along with members of their families, attended the ceremony in the Oval Office as President Bush signed the legislation at the White House.

Shortly before the ceremony, President Bush telephoned Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson at her home in Austin to offer congratulations and allowed her to hear the remarks made at the signing. Mrs. Johnson, 94, did not travel to Washington, D. C., but issued a statement through a spokesperson. "This will be a fitting tribute to Lyndon who worked so hard to make life better for so many, and - were he alive - I can think of nothing that would please him more! Lyndon wanted so much for the children of our country to have a healthy and rewarding life, and he believed that education was the key to fulfilling that hope. His life was about education, and I believe that he would have wished to be remembered as the 'Education' President."
