Yuki’s dog collar

This week's artifact is a dog collar worn by President Johnson’s dog, Yuki, while living in the White House. (1973.3572.8)  The inscription on the tag reads “DC Dog Tag 1.”  To learn more about and see pictures of Yuki and the other Johnson White House dogs, click here.

Did You Know…

LBJ's daughter, Luci, found a mixed breed dog at a gas station in Texas on Thanksgiving Day in 1966. She named the dog "Yuki", which means "snow" in Japanese. LBJ and Yuki sing while his grandson, Patrick Lyndon Nugent, looks on. [lBJ Library photo by Yoichi Okamoto. #A5370-25a]
