[LBJ Library photo by Ruth Goerger]

This week's artifact is a (1979.140.1) Southwest Texas State Teachers College sweater from donor G. Preston Smith. The “D” on the insignia indicates that this sweater belonged to a debate team member. The most prestigious alumnus of Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now called Texas State University-San Marcos), President Johnson was an active member of the debate team when he attended SWTTC from 1927-1930.
