Joining and Renewing Membership

How do I become a Friends member or renew my membership?

To join or renew online, please visit LBJFriends.org. If you would prefer to pay by check, simply download and complete the enrollment form and mail it to Friends of the LBJ Library, 2313 Red River Street, Austin, TX 78705.

How many people does my membership cover?

Museum Members: One person.

Family Museum Members: Two adults and all children in household under 18. (Two cards issued per membership.)

Individual Member/Individual Senior: One person.

Dual Member/Dual Member Senior: Two people.

Sustaining, Fellow, and Legacy: Two people.

If I purchase a Family/Dual/Sustaining/Fellow/Legacy membership for one person, am I entitled to benefits for two people?

Yes, individuals purchasing a Family, Dual, Sustaining, Fellow, or Legacy membership will receive two membership cards issued in his or her name and are entitled to member benefits for two people.

I just joined as a member. When can I begin using my membership?

If you join online, you will receive a confirmation email that can be printed or viewed on a smartphone. Your email confirmation can be used as temporary proof of membership until you receive your card. When you join or renew onsite at the membership desk, you can collect your membership card right away.

How early can I renew my membership?

Early renewal is a great way to ensure you receive invitations to each and every Friends event. Renewing before your membership expires adds one year to your current expiration date. You can renew your membership anytime.

Will I be reminded to renew my membership?

A renewal notice will be mailed the month before your membership expires. An email reminder is sent at the end of the month when your membership has lapsed.

When will I get my membership card?

Gift acknowledgements and membership cards are mailed within 7-14 business days of purchase.

Can I give a membership as a gift?

Of course! Membership is a gift that will be enjoyed for an entire year. You can purchase a gift membership here. Click the "Join Online Now!" button at the bottom of the page, select the membership level, and check the option "I wish to give a gift of membership" at the bottom of the page.


Member Events

Which membership levels receive invitations to Evening With speaker programs?

Members at the Individual level and above receive invitations to the Evening With speaker series and other Friends special events.

How will I know about upcoming Evening With events?

Invitations are mailed about four weeks prior to the event date. The monthly e-newsletter containing a schedule of upcoming events at the LBJ Library goes out the first week of each month. An up-to-date schedule of programs is available in the Upcoming Events section of our website.

How do I make a reservation for an event?

Friends members can email reservation requests to [email protected] or mail the reply card enclosed with your invitation. Email reservations will receive a confirmation reply. We do not send confirmation responses for reply cards received by mail. Please note that reservations are not accepted by phone.

Can I lend my membership card to a friend?

A membership card may only be used by the person named on the card. Membership cards should not be passed on to third parties for use at Friends events. If you would like your friend to enjoy member programming, consider purchasing a gift membership.

Can I bring a child to a Friends program?

We appreciate having interested young people in our program audience. However, you must be 21 years or older to attend a reception in the Great Hall.


Member Benefits

Do members receive a discount at the Library's gift shop?

Members receive a 10% discount on purchases made at The Store at the LBJ.

Can I use my Friends membership at other libraries?

Your membership card can be used for admission to any of the 13 presidential libraries overseen by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration. Click here for a list.

How can I use the guest passes that came with my Friends membership?

Members at the Individual level and above receive guest passes to the LBJ Library. Each serves as admission for one person to the Library. Guest passes are not valid for the Evening With programs or other member events.

Do members receive invitations to the annual Harry Middleton and Tom Johnson lectures?

The Harry Middleton and Tom Johnson lectures are not part of our "Evening With" lecture series. Only Friends members at the Legacy and Fellow levels receive invitations to these events.

I purchased a book online and I noticed the author is signing books at the LBJ Library. Will the author sign my book?

Authors will sign books purchased at The Store at the LBJ. Receipts from book purchases made prior to the event date should be kept as proof of purchase from The Store at the LBJ. No other items will be signed.
