On Tuesday, Feb. 9, Bill Richardson joined us for a special evening in conversation with LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove. Richardson has led a distinguished public service career as a U.S. Congressman (1982-1996), U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1997-1998), and Secretary of Energy under President Bill Clinton (1998-2000). He also served as Governor of New Mexico for two terms, from 2003-2011.

As a diplomat and special envoy, Richardson engaged in negotiations with Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, two generations of North Korean leadership, and many more of the world’s most infamous dictators. He has received four Nobel Peace Prize nominations and successfully won the release of hostages and American servicemen in North Korea, Cuba, Iraq, and the Sudan.

The event was co-hosted with the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History.
