High school students assume one of ten roles in the Johnson administration. Students use and analyze primary documents from the LBJ Library archives to make recommendations to the President regarding the escalation of the Vietnam War. Analysis and decision-making skills are emphasized as students work together to solve the administration’s dilemma.
This activity takes approximately 3 hours for 30 students to complete. We can accomodate up to 40 students (4 National Security Councils of 10 students each). Allow extra time for more students.
Before bringing students to the LBJ Library to participate in this activity, teachers will receive pre-visit preparation materials for their students.
After your visit to the LBJ Library, you can pursue an optional post-visit activity in your classroom which allows students to assume roles in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The Committee can subpoena administration members to question the recommendations made to the President.
To schedule a class session for your students at the LBJ Library and Museum or to obtain additional information contact one of our education specialists.
